This cake is actually a combination of cakes. I used a 2x2 plywood piece as a base. one 12x12 for the island, 2 9" rounds for the base of the volcano, and the top is a cascade bundt. I lined the well with foil and added dry ice for rolling smoke. It was a great effect... however- I will find an actually metal tube to hold the dry ice from now on as the foil leaked and my cake sprung a leak. The sand is brown sugar. I cut mini swedish fish to tuck into the water. The people-Dog and Beth- actually started out as a prince and princess I found at Walmart. It only took a black sharpie and some fake leather to rough them up. One Barbie doll donated her curly locks to make this cake possible. The cake was a hit with the kids and parents. Hopefully I will get some more jobs out of this. I always stress out when I am making a cake because I want it to be perfect and I get worried that people will not appreciate it. This cake was lots of fun to make and I was jazzed that everyone made over it and the people at World of Bounce took my number to pass out too!

Shark Attack!!!
These cupcakes were modeled after the Shark Attack cupcakes I saw in the book, Hello Cupcake! I love that book and this seemed to be the perfect cupcakes to celebrate Dominic's 6th birthday at the Columbus Aquatic Center. I tinted the cake batter blue and frosted the cupcakes. On top of each cupcake is a Twinkie that has been cut at an angle and slit in the back to insert a section of a Oreo wafer for the fin. I chilled the cupcakes and then heated gray tinted frosting and painted the icing on with a camelhair wide paint brush. The eyes are mini chocolate chips. The mouth is cut fruit roll up with piped on teeth and gills. These cupcakes took forever, but they turned out great and the little people at the party thought they were cool. I also made tie dyed tees to give away as party favors. I made them aqua blue with a cute shark with sunglasses that read "totally jawsome"... Good times... I love birthday parties...
